Nissan Advanced Air Bag System
The Nissan Advanced Air Bag System features dual-stage front air bags with seat belt sensors that inflate at different
force levels, depending on seat belt usage and the severity of the frontal crash. Plus, if the passenger seat is
empty or occupied by a young child or a child-safety seat, an occupant-classification sensor is designed to turn
off that air bag.
*Air bags are only a supplemental restraint
system; always wear your seat belt. Do not use rear-facing child restraints in the front-passenger's seat. Also,
all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or
seat belts according to their size. Air bags will only inflate in certain accidents. See your owner's manual for
more details. Inflated airbags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual air bags deflate after deployment. |

Side Air Bags
Available supplemental side-impact air bags help protect your chest areas in certain side impacts. They're built
into the front seats, not the door panels. Which means they move with you when you adjust the seat.
Please keep in mind that air bags are a supplemental
restraint system and must always be used in conjunction with a seat belt. Also, a rear-facing child restraint must
never be placed in the front-passenger's seat. In fact, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat
properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Roof-mounted curtain
side-impact supplemental air bags for front- and rear-seat outboard occupants head protection are designed to inflate
in higher severity side collisions on the side of the vehicle impacted. Please see your owner's manual for more
details. Side curtain air bags are available as part of the ABS and Side Air Bags Option or ABS, TCS and Side Air
Bags Option.

Front and Rear Side Curtain Air Bags
Altima also offers optional side curtain air bags. They cover the side windows and help protect both front and
rear outboard passengers in case of a side-impact collision.

restraint system and must always be used in conjunction with a seat belt. Also, a rear-facing child restraint must
never be placed in the front-passenger's seat. In fact, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat

Structure
The idea is to help protect the occupants in the event of a collision, using a Zone Body construction with structural
elements built right into the vehicle. The front zone includes: A crumple zone that helps absorb impact energy,
and hood deformation points and safety stops that help keep the hood from intruding into the cabin. The rear zone
also includes an energy-absorbing crumple zone, while the occupant zone features pipe-style steel side-door guard
beams to help absorb the energy of side impacts. Inside the cabin, an energy-absorbing steering column compresses
during certain frontal impacts.

Child Safety
Child-safety rear door locks help prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors. The LATCH System (Lower
Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure a LATCH-compatible child restraint without using the seat belts.
A properly installed child restraint is one
of the best ways to keep a child safe in a moving vehicle. This fact motivated us to create an industry first:
The Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide. This guide lists the child seats which fit the rear seats of Nissan
vehicles, and offers invaluable tips on correct installation. |

Active Head Restraints
Active head restraints actually move forward (toward your head) when you're rear-ended, helping to reduce the chance
of whiplash injuries for you and your front-seat passenger.

5-Star Frontal Impact Safety Rating*
Altima received a five-star rating (the highest) in frontal impact crash test safety from the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration.
*Government star ratings are part of the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). A 5-star rating is the highest
government safety rating for frontal-impact tests. Manufacturer's note: 2005 Altima model tested. 2006 model structurally
unchanged from 2005. |

Vehicle Security System
The available Vehicle Security System flashes the headlights and sounds the horn if there's any attempt to open
the doors without a key, or remove key cylinders. You can also push the panic button on the keyfob to sound the
alarm.

Vehicle Immobilizer System
The Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System makes it almost impossible for anyone to steal your car without your actual
key. A microchip inside the key sends a signal telling the engine to start. Without the key, the chip, and the
signal, your Altima won't start.
