IIHS Crash Test
Maxima's performance in the highspeed 40-mph frontal offset crash test into a deformable barrier earned it the
highest rating of "Best Pick" from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Manufacturer's note: 2004 Maxima tested. The
2006 model is structurally unchanged from 2004.

Curtain/Side Air Bag System
Since they're built into the front seats — not the door panels — Maxima's side-impact supplemental air bags move
with you when you adjust the seat to help protect your chest area in certain side impacts. And above you, roof-mounted
curtain side-impact supplemental air bags help protect front and rear outboard passengers from head injuries.
Air bags are only a supplemental restraint
system; always wear your seat belt. Do not use rear-facing child restraints in the front-passenger's seat. Also,
all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or
seat belts according to their size. Air bags will only inflate in certain accidents. See your owner's manual for
more details.
Inflated air bags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual air bags deflate after deployment.

Nissan Advanced Air Bag System
The Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) features dual-stage supplemental front air bags that incorporate seat
belt sensors and a front passenger occupant-classification sensor.* Air bag deployment adjusts according to seat-belt
usage and crash severity.

Active Head Restraints
Active Head Restraints actually move forward (toward your head) when you're rear-ended, helping to reduce the chances
of whiplash injuries for you and your front-seat passenger.

Pretensioners/Load Limiters
Always, always wear your seat belt. As good as they are, air bags are not a replacement for a seat belt. Inside
the Maxima, the front seat belts utilize pretensioners, which help tighten the belt when the front air bags deploy.
And load limiters — another feature built into the front seat belts — know enough to "give" a little
if your body puts too much force on the belt. |

Zone Body Construction
High-strength steel and crossmembers are added to Maxima's solid construction to reinforce the cabin. Crumple zones
are strategically placed front and rear to help absorb crash energy. Hood buckling creases help to prevent the
hood from intruding in the cabin. And to help reduce injury in side impacts, pipe-style steel side-door guard beams
in each of Maxima's doors.

Child Safety
Child-safety rear door locks help prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors. The LATCH System (Lower
Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure a LATCH-compatible child restraint without using the seat belts.
Nissan's latest child safety program, the Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, provides parents with specific
information on how to properly fit an infant, child or booster seat for their Nissan or Infiniti vehicle. The Snug
Kids Guide was developed to help improve child safety by making sure the right child seat is chosen and by providing
tips on proper installation.

Vehicle Security System
The Vehicle Security System flashes the headlights and sounds the horn if there's any attempt to open the doors
without a key or to remove key cylinders. You can also push the panic button on the keyfob to sound the alarm for
30 seconds.

Vehicle Immobilizer System
The Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System makes it almost impossible for anyone to steal your car without your actual
key. A microchip inside the key sends a signal telling the engine to start. Without the key, the chip, and the
signal, your Maxima won't start.
