5-Star Side-impact Safety Rating
Z® received a 5-star side-impact rating (the highest) in side-impact crash test safety from the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration.
*Government star ratings are part of NHTSA's
New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Manufacturer's note: 2003 Z® tested. The 2006 model is structurally unchanged
from 2003. |

Crumple Zones
A crumple zone up front helps absorb crash energy, helping to reduce the risk of injury to occupants. Inside the
cabin, an energy-absorbing steering column compresses during certain frontal impacts to help reduce the chance
of injury. A rear crumple zone is also built into the Z® to help absorb impact energy and help reduce the risk
of injury to occupants.

Side-impact Beams
Pipe-style steel side-door guard beams help protect the passenger compartment in the event of certain side impacts.

Hood Buckling Creases
The hood is built to buckle at predetermined points while the engine, in certain frontal impacts, is designed to
drop down and away from the passenger compartment. Even the driveshaft, again in certain impacts, is designed to
collapse, further helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Vehicle Security System
The Vehicle Security System helps keep your Z®, your Z®. Set the alarm, and if anyone tries to force a
door open, or even reach through an open window and unlock the car, the blast of the horn and the flashing of the
lights will send them running. There is also a panic button on the key fob to sound the alarm for 30 seconds. It's
especially helpful when you can't remember where in the parking garage you actually parked.

Immobilizer
A screwdriver will not start a Z®. This is good. Built into the key of the Z® is a microchip that matches
with a sensor in the steering column. Without that match, nothing happens. A good nothing.

Front Air Bags
Inside are front dual-stage air bags to help protect you in certain types of collisions. "Dual-stage"
means the air bags are equipped with sensors that can determine impact levels as well as determine whether the
occupants are wearing their seat belts (which they always should be), and deploy the bags accordingly.
Air bags are only a supplemental restraint
system; always wear your seatbelt. Do not use rear-facing child restraints in the front-passenger's seat. See your
owner's manual for more details.
Inflated air bags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual air bags deflate after deployment. |

Side Air Bags
Some Z® models are equipped with seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags that move with the seat, to
help provide enhanced protection during a collision.
Air bags are only a supplemental restraint
system; always wear your seatbelt. Do not use rear-facing child restraints in the front-passenger's seat. See your
owner's manual for more details.
Inflated air bags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual air bags deflate after deployment. |

Side Curtain Air Bags
Available roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags are designed to drop down and help provide enhanced
protection to the driver and passenger during certain side impacts. (Not available on Roadster.)
Air bags are only a supplemental restraint
system; always wear your seatbelt. Do not use rear-facing child restraints in the front-passenger's seat. See your
owner's manual for more details.
Inflated air bags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual air bags deflate after deployment.

Seat Belt Pretensioners
Not all seat belts are equal. The seatbelts inside the Z® are equipped with pretensioners that help tighten
the belts whenever the front air bags deploy.
